We’ve installed and serviced plenty of Billi systems over the years — predominantly in commercial offices where staff rely on them all day. The Billi Quadra Compact Boiling and Chilled Water Unit sits right in the sweet spot of their range: a premium, compact, under-bench system that delivers instant boiling and chilled filtered water.
It’s sleek, fast, and made right here in Australia. But is it really worth the price? Here’s what we at Aquaclear have seen — the good, the not-so-good, and what we tell our own clients before they buy one.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.8 / 5 Stars
Based on our hands-on installations and customer feedback, the Billi Quadra Compact earns a near-perfect score for its design, efficiency, and reliability.
First Impressions
Billi products have a distinct design philosophy — compact, efficient, and unobtrusive. When we unbox a Quadra Compact, it’s immediately clear it’s built for Australian kitchens and offices that don’t want bulky systems hogging cupboard space.
The tap itself looks premium and feels solid. The XL levered dispenser is our personal favourite - easy to use, even one-handed, and it doesn’t get hot when dispensing boiling water. You can also opt for the touch-activated XT model, which looks sleek and trades the tactile feel for a minimal interface.
From a design perspective, Billi absolutely nails it. Their tap range — from brushed chrome to matte black, white and brass - makes it easy to match any kitchen. For architects or business owners who care about aesthetics, it’s one of the most stylish hydration systems out there.
The Real Difference: Water-Cooled System
One of the biggest advantages of the Billi Quadra Compact (and most Billi systems) is that it’s water-cooled, not air-cooled
What does that mean in practice?
● No cabinet ventilation required. You don’t need to cut holes for airflow, which keeps your joinery intact - perfect for tight kitchens or island benches.
● Quieter operation. Since there’s no fan, it runs quietly in the background.
● Water usage trade-off. It does use a small amount of water for cooling, which drains away. In a typical office, this adds up to only a few extra litres a day - a fair trade for convenience and silence.
For installations where space is tight or aesthetics matter, we often recommend Billi purely for this reason.
Installation: What We’ve Seen in the Field
From an installer’s point of view, the Billi Quadra Compact is a well-designed system that’s relatively quick to fit when the plumbing is ready.
A few notes from our experience:
● It needs a cold water line, power outlet, and drain connection.
● The under-bench unit is compact — roughly the size of a small suitcase — and fits easily under most kitchen sinks.
● The tap hole is standard size (35 mm), and Billi supplies all fittings needed.
● Once set up, we calibrate the boiling and chilled temperatures to suit the customer’s needs — boiling at around 98 °C, chilled around 5 - 10 °C.
For replacement units, Billi installs usually go faster than air cooled systems because they don’t need venting. For new kitchens, we just make sure the cabinetry allows for that drain hose (most designs already account for it).
On average, installation takes about 1–2 hours. Once it’s running, we flush the filter and check that both boiling and chilled are delivering smoothly.
Everyday Use: How It Performs
Let’s get to the heart of it — what’s it like to live with a Billi Quadra Compact?
Boiling Water
The boiling side is rock-solid. It delivers near-instant 98 °C filtered water and refills quickly between uses. Even with multiple cups or pots, temperature consistency is excellent.
Chilled Water
The chilled function gives smooth, clean-tasting water between 5–15 °C. It’s not quite as ice-cold as a large fridge chiller, but it’s crisp enough that most people drink more water just because it tastes so good.
Noise and Operation
Because it’s water-cooled, the system is very quiet. You’ll hear a faint hum when it’s heating or chilling, but it’s softer than a dishwasher cycle. No fan noise, no vibration.
Tap Usability
The XL lever model is simple, sturdy, and intuitive. Push down for a quick fill, lift up for continuous flow — it’s that easy. The safety lock for boiling water is well designed and doesn’t feel fiddly.
Filtration and Water Taste
Billi’s range of carbon filters remove chlorine, sediment, and unpleasant tastes while keeping healthy minerals in the water.
Water comes out tasting clean and pure, perfect for tea, coffee, or just hydration.
Filter life is typically 6–12 months depending on usage. The tap flashes a light when it’s time for a change. Changing the filter is a simple job that most users can do themselves.
Efficiency and Eco Factors
Billi’s heat-exchange system reuses waste heat from chilling to preheat boiling water, making it one of the most energy-efficient taps on the market.
It also has a standby mode that powers down automatically when idle — saving energy without any effort.
Maintenance and Reliability
We’ve maintained Billi systems that have been running smoothly for over a decade. The key is simple: change filters on time and get a service check every few years.
| Task | Frequency |
| Filter change | Every 6–12 months |
| Service check | Every 3–5 years |
| Cleaning | As needed |
